Campers Support NSYMCA with Color Run Fundraiser

Campers from the North Suburban YMCA's summer day camp practiced social responsibility and had fun by participating in the Y's "Color Run" fundraiser event on July 23. Participants donated $25 to wear an official "Color Run" T-shirt, raising over $3,700 to help provide community programs and scholarships to families in need, and ensure that the Y remains strong for the future.

Over 217 enthused "Color Run" participants ran in white T-shirts while counselors doused them in multicolored paint powders during the race.

"The 'Color Run' is really fun, and it helps people in our community," exclaimed camper Benny Fine.

Siblings Dylan and El Hayman donated a bag of coins they've been saving for the "Color Run" fundraiser, stating that "they really want to help others."

Each $25 donation contributes to the more than $500,000 in financial aid per year, and ensures that more than 238 children learn to swim, over 250 seniors have the opportunity stay active and have a place to belong, up to 30% of Y campers get financial assistance, and programs like the YMCA Education Series are available for the community.

"We are so proud of our campers' interest in helping others," said North Suburban YMCA's Summer Camp and SmartLab Director Ricky Gonzalez. "Our community continues to teach their children to give back to others, and the amazing support we received in the 'Color Run' proves it. The YMCA's mission is to develop a healthy community that is inclusive and strong, and these children have been doing their best to ensure that all kids are supported, and that the Y continues to offer programs and services that benefit the entire community. No matter your age, income, or background."
