Schaumburg Library program looks discusses history of voting rights

From expansions and contractions to balloting rules and security, Political Science Professor John Mark Hansen will present a historical overview of "A History of Voting Rights in the United States" from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, online with the Schaumburg Library.

Registration for the program is required at SchaumburgLibrary.org to receive the Zoom link; however, the program may also be viewed live streamed on SchaumburgLibrary.tv.

Hansen received the Charles L. Hutchinson Distinguished Service award and teaches at the University of Chicago. His areas of expertise include electoral politics and voter participation and, in 2001, he was coordinator of the research task force on the federal election system for the National Commission on Federal Election Reform, an independent, bipartisan panel chaired by Presidents Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford.

He is the co-author of "Mobilization, Participation, and Democracy in America" (1993) and several other books and articles.
