Two Geneva restaurants with shared heated patio launch Giving Tuesday program
Tuesday, March 9, will be the first "Dine & Share #GivingTuesday" for Preservation and Atlas Chicken Shack in downtown Geneva.
The two restaurants are launching a monthly program that highlights a different local charity each month.
In addition to special events and offerings, a percentage of every Tuesday's sales will go to the non-profit.
"We not only want to support local organizations that are in current need, we also want to give non-profits the opportunity to educate our community on what they do and the type of help they could use," says Jason Oles, bartender at Preservation and founder of the program.
Preservation's wine-centered and scratch-made, small-plate concept has grown out of its original 30-seat building across from the Geneva train station into a restaurant "compound," which stretches behind both Atlas and Preservation's storefronts, opening to a large patio that is heated by powerful natural gas heaters with a retractable roof and also a grassy area open in the spring.
The tiny Atlas Chicken shack puts out many vegetarian and vegan options in addition to antibiotic and hormone-free chicken tenders and sandwiches.
Their owner, Lawrence Colburn, is grateful that the businesses have been weathering COVID. "It is time for us to put creative energy towards giving back to our wonderful community that has supported us for 10 years," Colburn said.
In its debut month, "Dine & Share #GivingTuesday" will be donating a portion of profits to Mutual Ground, located in Aurora, which assists domestic abuse victims in creating safety plans, legal advocacy, hospital advocacy, counseling, and education. They help victims from the first step of calling the 24-hour hotline (630) 897-0080 to getting up on their feet.
Advancement director Kathy Melone says, "Serving victims of domestic and sexual violence has been a challenge during this pandemic. But the needs have not changed; people from all walks of life still have been seeking the services of Mutual Ground on a daily basis. Without the support of our community and its members, we would not be able to help our clients and their children during one of the most difficult, and dangerous, times of their life."
Jason Oles wants to make sure they are getting the support and exposure they deserve, and he's excited to work with owner Lawrence Colburn and his partner Tess Bondavalli.
This is how it works: by making a reservation on a Tuesday for a table on Preservation's heated outdoor patio or in its limited indoor seating, 10% of your bill will automatically go to the charity of the month.

Ten percent of your total will also go to the charity when ordering Atlas Chicken Shack online through their website www.atlaschickenshack.com. Pick up at their side window. If you don't want to go out, you can now buy e-gift cards good for both restaurants through either of the restaurants' websites www.preservationgeneva.com.
If you buy on a Tuesday, 10% of those sales will also go to the charity of the month. Keep an eye on their webpages and social media for other special Tuesday offerings such as cocktail classes, beer and wine tastings, and live music. Representatives from the charities are invited to come mingle with and educate patrons on Tuesdays. Kathy Melone will be there to chat on Tuesdays, March 16 and 23.
