Twenty-first Star Chapter NSDAR Recognizes DAR Good Citizens

The Twenty-first Star Chapter of the NSDAR is pleased to honor students from each of the Maine Township High Schools as DAR Good Citizens. To receive the DAR Good Citizen Award each student must demonstrate leadership, service, dependability and patriotism.

Each winner was reviewed by Twenty-first Star Chapter DAR Good Citizen Director, Heather Andrews. The students will be presented with a pin, a special certificate of achievement, and a recognition card. They will each receive a monetary award at the close of the school year.

The Maine East High School winner is Gabriela Konopka. This academically talented student belongs to the National Honor Society and is an AP Scholar. Gabriela is a Class Leader and serves on the Class Council Executive Board. She is a member of the Orchestra and a Maine East Cares Charity Club officer.

The Maine West High School winner is Jenna Daube. This outstanding student is both an editor and a reporter for the school newspaper, The Westerner. She also serves as a Class Leader and performs with the choir. Jenna is a cross country athlete and still finds time to volunteer at her church.

The Maine South High School winner is Anna Wapner. Anna is a member of the National Honor Society, an AP Scholar with Distinction and a National Merit Finalist. She received the We the People Unit Award as part of her participation in the Maine South Constitution Team that placed first in Illinois this year. This musically talented student is a trumpet section leader and a teaching assistant for the freshman band.

The Twenty-first Star Chapter NSDAR serves the Park Ridge, Niles, Des Plaines, and Morton Grove areas. Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal decent from a patriot of the American Revolution, is eligible for membership in the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. The NSDAR recognizes, "Patriots: as not only soldiers, but anyone who contributed to the cause of American freedom."
