Civil Rights Activist Thomas Armstrong Coming to Schaumburg Library

Civil rights activist Thomas Armstrong will present "A Foot Soldier's Journey"from 7-8:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 25 online with the Schaumburg Township District Library. Register at SchaumburgLibrary.org to receive the Zoom link or watch live streamed at SchaumburgLibrary.tv.

A native of Mississippi, Armstrong will share his story of joining the Freedom Rides in 1961, publicly confronting segregation and being forced to leave home in fear for his life. He will discuss his involvement in the early days of racial integration in Mississippi, and says he hopes to inspire younger generations to realize the personal power of civic engagement. “We were ordinary people, both black and white in the south, who made it happen,” he said, “not unlike the high school, college and university students of today.”

The Schaumburg Township District Library and its branches in Hoffman Estates and Hanover Park are now open to the public, with limited hours and capacity. Please go the SchaumburgLibrary.org for details or call the library at (847) 985-4000.
