The Anderson Arts Center Opens Nine Solo Art Shows on February 7

The Anderson Arts Center is pleased to present nine new solo exhibitions featuring a variety of work by Wisconsin artists opening Sunday, February 7 and running through Sunday, March 21, 2021.

In its two main floor galleries, the Arts Center will highlight the work of two Wisconsin photographers. Jim Hale, from Lake Mills, is a landscape photographer who works within the tradition of large format cameras and film-based photography to capture areas where nature and human activity intersect.

In the East Gallery, Whitewater photographer Jeff McDonald will showcase his black and white landscape work as well as color architectural photos from his 2019 "Weekend in Chicago" project.

Five upstairs galleries will highlight the winners from the League of Milwaukee Artists (LMA) exhibition last February. Best of Show winner Colette Odya Smith will showcase her work with watercolor and pastel that focuses on the beauty found in rocks, water, and foliage.

First place winner Susan Steinhafel will exhibit her work involving photography, monoprinting, and other design elements that encourage energy, focus, and hope.

Second place winner and watercolor artist Joyce Eesley will showcase her realistic paintings of fruit, vegetables, flowers, and other items found in nature.

Third place winner Chuck Weber will highlight his collection of high drama "nouveau frescoes" with heavy gel and distressed substrates.

And Jack Long, Honorable Mention winner, will show his creative applications of splash photography, known as liquid based photographic art.

Two additional Honorable Mention winners will be highlighted in the Gift Shop. Encaustic artist Terri Lockwood will exhibit her pieces involving nature, beeswax and bees, birds, and trees. And fiber artist Donna Tronca will highlight her Eco Art collection that involves upcycled fabrics and fusing plastic.

Along with the solo exhibitions, the Area Artist Group and the Resident Artists of the Kemper Center's Lakefront Art Studios will open their group shows.

Due to COVID-19 precautions, there will be no opening reception or refreshments. Masks are required in the Arts Center and capacity is limited to ten people. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Sunday from 1:00-4:00pm.
