Tools for Success Changes Strategy to Help Students During COVID-19

Tools for Success, a collection of supplies for local students, will look a little different this year, according to Patti Smolin, co-chair of the Hoffman Estates Chamber's Tools for Success Committee and business liaison librarian for Schaumburg Township District Library.

Smolin said that in lieu of collecting school supplies this year, Tools for Success will collect monetary donations online for disadvantaged children in the community. Money collected will go to the District 54 Foundation and be used for school supplies and meeting students' other urgent needs. Instead of the usual deadline, the collection will continue throughout the school year.

"Schaumburg Library has always been active in the chamber and with the Tools for Success drive," Smolin said. "We believe education is critical for students to have a good quality of life, and having the right tools is a step in the right direction."

Anyone interested in donating can visit d54foundation.org and click on the dropdown arrow in the "Choose a Program" box, then "Tools for Success" to enter the donation amount.

For those who prefer to donate actual school supplies, the Township of Schaumburg is hosting a collection at its facility located at One Illinois Blvd., in Hoffman Estates.
