The Anderson Arts Center Art of the Car Show Goes Virtual
Held on the Kenosha lakeshore for the last five years, the Anderson Arts Center's Art of the Car Show is going virtual this year due to COVID-19. The annual event raises money for children's arts programming.
"It was an extremely tough decision to take the car show online this year," said Ed Kubicki, Kemper Center Executive Director. "Our annual event is a huge hit, and we wanted to make sure local car owners and car enthusiasts still had the opportunity to view some beautiful cars, especially during this time when live events are limited."
Hosted on the Kemper Center's website from August 17 through August 23, the car show will feature images of cars, trucks, and motorcycles. Vehicle owners from all over the nation can enter on the website, by phone, or by mail to be included in the online event. Each vehicle will feature fun facts or the owner's fond memories.
Cars will also be featured on the Anderson Arts Center's Facebook and Instagram pages. Visitors to the website can cast votes for which cars are their favorites starting August 17.
The car registration fee is $10 per car. The voting fee is $5 per vote. All money raised from the virtual car show will benefit children's programming at the Anderson Arts Center.
"As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect families in our community, children need an outlet for creativity, beauty, and hope now more than ever," said Rena Lee, Anderson Arts Center Administrator.
"We were disappointed to have to cancel our full summer art camp, but we are dedicated to bringing music, dance, and art classes to kids as the year progresses. Money raised from our virtual car show is critical so that we can continue to offer arts education for children in the community this fall and winter."
Contestants must pay the registration fee online, by phone (262) 653-0481, or by mail to the Anderson Arts Center, and email their photo(s) to rena@andersonartscenter.com by August 14 to be included. Voting will begin on the website at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, August 17 and continue until midnight on Sunday, August 23.
Cars will be judged in four categories:
• Best car, truck, motorcycle pre-1960
• Best car, truck, motorcycle 1960-1990
• Best car, truck, motorcycle 1990-today
• Best surviving car, truck, motorcycle, must be at least 50 years old and 100% original except replacement items
One winner in each category will be announced Monday, August 24. Winners will receive a $100 cash prize and two tickets to the Kemper Center's Oktoberfest event on September 19.
