Pacific Garden Mission feeds, shelters homeless; offers guidance, hope

Oak Brook, Illinois - The Christmas holidays often bring into focus the challenges many world citizens face, such as homelessness, which during this season receives wonderful outpouring of support from caring people, but unfortunately goes lacking once the holidays conclude.

One local service group takes a yearlong approach toward relieving this need within the Chicago area.

Founded in 1877, Pacific Garden Mission (PGM) is the oldest continuously operating Christian-based rescue mission in the country. PGM meets the physical needs of Chicago's homeless and hurting men, women and children 365 days a year - serving more than 2,000 hot, nutritious meals and sheltering more than 400 people each day.

PGM also strives to holistically nurture homeless men and women by providing food, housing, and emotional and spiritual support through its programs. Pacific Garden Mission will serve lunch and fellowship with those in need on Wednesday, January 1 and seeks volunteers.
