Schaumburg Library Begins One Book, One Community Experience

The new year will kick off with a One Book, One Community experience for all ages at the Schaumburg Township District Library.

Beginning Saturday, Jan. 4, the library will offer programs and events featuring "Pachinko" by National Book Award Finalist Min Jin Lee, as well as "Dear Juno" by Soyung Pak and "Listen, Slowly" by Thanhha Lai for younger patrons. These titles were chosen to encourage discussions about families, immigrants, survival and identity, and are available for check-out from all three library locations in Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates and Hanover Park.

The One Book, One Community Carnival will take place from 1-3 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 4, at the central library in Schaumburg, 130 S. Roselle Road. All ages are welcome to celebrate the community reading event with a Korean dance performance, storytime, carnival games and crafts. Free copies of "Pachinko," "Dear Juno" and "Listen, Slowly" will be given away, while supplies last.

Throughout January and February, a variety of One Book, One Community programs and special events will take place. These include visits by all three authors, art programs, book discussions, crafts, and food demonstrations and tastings.

More information about the above programs is available in the library's December-January Guide, which was mailed to Schaumburg township residents and is available at www.SchaumburgLibrary.org.
