Art by Plein Air Painters and Kittie Yohe on Display in December in YMCA Community Galleries

The North Suburban YMCA displays paintings in December by artists from the Plein Air Festival that took place in September, as well as retired local art teacher Kittie Yohe.

In addition, there will be two Pop Up displays: For June Jewelry by Michelle Rubin will have a show in the lobby of the Y on Tuesday, 12/11 from 9:00-5:00pm and Wednesday, 12/12 from 9:00-6:00pm.; and jewelry, cards and artwork by Kim Romain will have a Pop Up show on Saturday, 12/14 from 7:30-1:00pm.

The public is invited to a reception for the Plein Air exhibit on Thursday, December 5th from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Y, located at 2705 Techny Rd. in Northbrook. The art is available for purchase and to take home that evening, with a portion of proceeds supporting Visual Arts programs at the Y.

"We had some excellent artists at the Plein Air Festival this year who created remarkable paintings that help people in our community see the beauty in places that we drive by every day," said Bruce Bondy, chair of the Northbrook Arts Commission. In addition to spots around Northbrook, this year's locations included Glencoe Beach, the Chicago Botanic Garden, The Glen and Wagner Farm. A variety of paintings from those locations will be on display at the Y and make one of a kind holiday gifts.

Kittie Yohe has been painting watercolors for 41 years. She is a Northbrook resident who taught art in Australia, Mundelein, Riverwoods and Northbrook District 28. Ms. Yohe has exhibited in local art fairs and participated in both one woman and group shows. She is active in the Glenview Art League and most recently studied watercolor with the late Jean Poklop and Florida artists Barbara Simmons and Libit Jones. The exhibit of her watercolors is on display in the Y's Lower Level Community Gallery through December.

The North Suburban YMCA's Community Galleries support the local arts community by presenting free public exhibitions of work by artists from the northern suburbs. The Y also offers a wide variety of art classes and studio space available to all ages. For more information, visit NSYMCA.org.
