Lincoln Elementary School's 'Just Shave It' fundraiser raises money for Cal's Angels

On October 17th, a pediatric cancer fundraiser was held at Lincoln Elementary School in Wheaton called “Just Shave It”. The money raised that night went to Cal's Angels, a local 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to grant wishes, raise awareness and fund research to children fighting cancer.

20 kids and adults signed up to shave their heads, and 2 donated their hair! The money raised through raffle prizes, food sales, and online donations totaled $6400! That money will be used solely for research to help find better treatments for kids going through chemo right now.

Sheridan's Barbers were there shaving their heads while Jessica Ann Photography took pictures. The food/drinks were supplied by Nani's Pizza, Buona Beef, and Pete's Fresh Market. Kids rocked out to music provided by Tim from The Record Shop, and faces were painted by galaevents.biz. The other sponsors of the event were Fry the Coop, Dental Care of Wheaton, and Smile Doctors.

Many people came out to help cheer on their friends and family, and a few decided that night to shave their heads! Lots of fun was had by all in attendance, and hopefully people learned more about pediatric cancer and how little the government actually funds.

Liz Sepich organized the event in honor of her 7 year old son who finished treatment for leukemia last year. Even though he is finished with treatment, she works to help raise awareness about this terrible disease that affects more kids than you may think (43 kids are diagnosed everyday). Cal's Angels won't stop until a cure is found someday and no other family has to hear the words, “your child has cancer.”
