Wheaton Municipal Band to perform member's favorites July 25

The Wheaton Municipal Musicians selected the concert program for Thursday, July 25 at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Park in downtown Wheaton. During this 90th anniversary nostalgic season, the 89 musicians in the band had a chance to vote for their favorite music. The selections are sure to surprise the most astute listener.

Musicians often select music based on their individual parts. If the parts are interesting and challenging, then the musicians tend to enjoy playing that music. But there is more to the selecting process. Many of the members of the Wheaton Municipal Band are band directors themselves, and they appreciate brilliant scoring and lush harmonies. The concert is sure to please every taste.

March lovers can enjoy "A Sousa Celebration" by Noble and Fillmore's "Rolling Thunder." Clarinetists and audience members alike appreciate Grainger's "Handle in the Strand, " and "Molly on the Shore." The Clarinet section is one of the larger sections in the band, so they had a greater percentage of the vote. The Classic "American Overture for Band" by Jenkins always brings applause.

The Wheaton Municipal Band celebration of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing continues with a special selection called "Apollo 11."

Also on the program is trombone soloist Connor Fredrick performing "Concertine" by Ferdinand David.
