World's Fastest Cyclists Race Through Niles In The Intelligentsia Cup Criterium Cycling Race This Thursday

The residential streets of the Village of Niles become a racecourse for the world's fastest cyclists as the Holiday Inn Express Niles Cycling Classic rolls into Niles on Thursday, July 25. In its third year, the race starts at Notre Dame College Prep, loops through Niles returning to the finish line on Ozark Avenue adjacent to the Notre Dame Prep campus. Spectators can watch the race, try out the course for themselves and enjoy food, drink and live music at an outdoor event from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

"The Cycling Classic is a great way to focus on fitness and spectate some of the world's fastest cyclists as they race through Niles," says Niles Family Fitness Center Director Carl Maniscalco. "The Fitness Center is committed to providing quality health, fitness and wellness services for the Niles community and is proud to be a partner of the Intelligentsia Cup."

The Village of Niles is one of just ten towns in the Chicagoland-area selected by the Intelligentsia Cup to host the criterium and road race events. More than 300 cyclists are expected to participate in the Niles Cycling Classic. Women and Junior Women racers kick off the day with a 30-minute race starting at 9:45 a.m. and races continue until 8:15 p.m., when the Intelligentsia Coffee Pro Open concludes. Holiday Inn Express is the Niles Cycling Classic Title Sponsor.

While cycling races will occur all day, the village invites spectators to see cyclists fly through the neighborhoods of Niles at a family-friendly, outdoor event from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Notre Dame College Prep. Anyone - adults and kids included - can try out the race course in the Family Fun Race at 6:15 p.m.

Attendees can enjoy Goose Island beer and listen to the Four Star Brass Band, which will play from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. The first 100 event attendees receive a free t-shirt. The Village of Niles Police will host a taco stand, with suggested donations benefiting the Niles Family Services Food Pantry and Shop with a Cop.

The St. John Brebeuf Holy Name Men's Club will sell Goose Island beer, with donations benefiting local food pantries, youth ministries and other community causes.
