Water Street Studios' Live Art Series offers preview of AfterImage Film Festival

The June edition of Water Street Studios' Live Art Series will feature an evening of films and film-related programming, courtesy of the new AfterImage Film Festival. It will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, June 28, at the gallery, 160 S. Water St. in Batavia.

After the cocktail hour, the program will commence with the unveiling of the official lineup for the 2019 AfterImage Film Festival. The lineup will include a diverse range of programming including films that premiered at major festivals such as Sundance, SXSW and the Toronto Film Festival, as well as films made by Chicago-area directors. Attendees will then be treated to a sneak preview of one of the short films that will be presented during the festival in September.

After a brief intermission, the evening will continue with a screening of "Contaminated Memories," produced by Chicago-based Kartemquin Films ("Hoop Dreams," "Minding the Gap").

In 1985, Penny Beerntsen was brutally attacked on a beach in Wisconsin after which she identified Steven Avery as her attacker. Based primarily upon her eyewitness testimony, Avery was convicted, but 18 years into his 32-year sentence, a devastating discovery occurs.

Filmmaker Debra Tolchinsky will be in attendance for a post-screening Q&A.

The documentary is is intended for mature audiences and includes some graphic language.

The screening will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 28.

Tickets are available online at eventbrite.com. Cost is $10 in advance and $15 at the door.

Doors open and cocktails at 6 p.m.

The screening of will be followed by filmmaker Q&A at 7:15 p.m.

The AfterImage Film Festival is an annual event serving the Fox Valley region of Illinois and strives to be one of the premier film festivals in the Midwest. The AfterImage Film Festival will be held Sept. 26-29. Founded in 2018, AfterImage was formed by the dedicated volunteers of the Geneva Film Festival. The first edition of the AfterImage Film Festival will include a wide range of programming that includes both feature length and short films, narratives and documentaries, American independents and foreign language titles.
