Become a Literacy Tutor at the Schaumburg Library

Adults ages 18 years and older who are interested in helping others learn to read English are welcome to register for "Become a Literacy Tutor," available on various dates in April and May at the Schaumburg Township Library, 130 S. Roselle Rd.

Potential tutors do not need to be bilingual or have teaching experience, because they will be guided through the process by The Elgin Literacy Connection during training sessions at the library. Sessions take place from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesdays, April 23 and 30, May 7 and 14.

Trainees must complete the first session on April 23 and just one other session in person. Tutor training is a blend of online lessons and face-to-face classes. Once you complete training, you'll be matched with a learner and meet regularly with that person for one or two hours per week.

Registration and a $10 fee are required to attend the training sessions. Register with the Elgin Literacy Connection at info@elginliteracy.org or (847) 742-6565.

A full listing of upcoming programs and events can be found in the library's April-May Guide or online at SchaumburgLibrary.org.
