Library Invites Students and Parents to College Prep Programs

To reduce the stress and confusion often inherent in preparing for college, the Schaumburg Township Library is offering programs highlighting admissions, financial strategies and college application essays and study skills. The following free programs take place at the Central Library, 130 S. Roselle Rd., Schaumburg, and are available to high school students and their parents. Registration is required. "How to Pay for College Without Going Broke" will take place from 7-8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 10, in the Adult Classroom on the second floor of the library. Professionals from My College Planning Team will share their expertise to help attendees discover financial and academic strategies to reduce college costs while finding the best-fit college.

"College Admissions from Start to Finish" will be held from 7-8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 17 in the Adult Classroom. The college admissions process will be explained, with clarification on topics like deadlines, suggested number of applications, the financial aid process and scholarship searches.

"Creating a Strong College Essay" is slated form 7-8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 24 in the Adult Classroom. Representatives of C2 Education will discuss the do's and don'ts of creating a strong college admissions essay. Attendees will learn about the various types of essay prompts and how to balance creativity and focus.

"Tools for Achievement: Study Skills" will take place from 7-8 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 7 in the Adult Classroom. The high-level study skills necessary to complete challenging coursework while managing daily responsibilities will be highlighted. Participants will learn how to develop study skills needed to achieve success in school.
