Public Invited to Schaumburg's Public Safety Open House on Oct. 6

The Village of Schaumburg invites the public to attend its Annual Public Safety Open House that will feature interactive demonstrations and exhibits from the Schaumburg Fire and Police Departments.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6 at Fire Station 51, 950 W. Schaumburg Rd. and the Police Station, 1000 W. Schaumburg Rd. This family-friendly event is free and will be held rain or shine.

Attendees are asked to "Stuff-A-Truck" by bringing non-perishable items that will be donated to the Schaumburg Township Food Pantry. Those who donate will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win a fire department or police department safety basket. Suggested items for donation include paper products and non-perishable foods; most common needed items include canned meats, canned pasta, soup, juice, snacks and crackers, baking items, tomato products, paper goods and hygiene products.

During the event, the fire department will show off fire gear and equipment, perform vehicle extrication and cardiac resuscitation demonstrations and offer hands-on educational experiences. Fire department personnel will be available to share valuable information about fire and life safety and answer questions about the services and programs provided by the department.

The police department will have vehicles on display as well as specialized police equipment. Guided tours will be available inside the police department and detention facility. There will be educational opportunities to learn about the many divisions within the police department and gather Crime Prevention information.
