Eli Skinner DAR Chapter Requests American History Essays

The Eli Skinner Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), in order to encourage grade school students in their American History studies, is sponsoring an essay contest for students in our area.

All students in grades 5, 6, 7, 8 in public, private, parochial or home schools are eligible to participate. The title of this year's essay is: "The Women's Suffrage Campaign". Topic: The 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was passed by the United States Congress on June 4, 1919, and it was ratified on August 19, 1929. This amendment granted all American women the right to vote and to hold elective office. Students are asked to imagine that they are living in1919 while the women's suffrage campaigns were having impact on America - politically and socially, and to discuss the pros and cons of this new amendment once it was passed. Guidelines will be enclosed with a school reply post card.

The deadline for our chapter to receive the essays is Nov. 18, 2018.

Please mail your submission to Carole Komarek, 215 W. Park St., Arlington Heights IL 60005. Our chapter presents chapter awards at our February 2019 meeting. All students who submit essays receive a certificate of participation.
