Book Discussion with Local Author Barbara Serbinski Sipe June 6
The Wildbird Shack in Mount Prospect is thrilled to welcome local author Barbara Serbinski Sipe for a book discussion on her recently published book, "Letters From The Box In The Attic: A Story of Courage, Survival and Love."
Sipe's powerful book traces her mother's courageous and terrifying journey from the Soviet invasion of Poland, through Soviet prisons and her eventual release from a Siberian labor camp, through the deserts of the Middle East, through Italy and then eventually to the shores of Great Britain where she learns tragic information.
The moving memoir is based upon letters, documents and photographs Barbara discovered in her mother's attic as well as her own memories growing up in a Polish household. The research Sipe has done for the book also explains why her mother was arrested, how she and her husband dealt with their past and how their life changing experiences ultimately affected them.
"There have been many books written recently both as non-fiction and historical fiction about survivors of World War II. I am proud to present this piece of nonfiction as a story of survival, courage and love," says Barbara Sipe.
Join us for an incredible evening learning about Sipe's book, her discovery of the documents and her craft as an author. You do not have to have read the book for this discussion.
