Girls volleyball: Seventeen straight for Fremd

Fremd senior setter Lydia Vander Ark handed out 17 assists on Thursday night and the host Vikings won their 17th straight match to retain sole possession of first place in the Mid-Suburban West girls volleyball standings.

Fremd's No. 17, Rian Baker, added 12 assists as the Vikings stopped Barrington 22-25, 25-18, 25-15 in a match featuring last year's West co-champions.

Fremd raised its record to 17-2 and 5-0 in the West, one match ahead of Palatine (4-1).

Breslin Reid (13 kills) and her sophomore sister Rylen Reid (12 kills) led the Fremd attack, which also received 7 kills from Cassie Seaver.

Izzy Segoviano served 3 aces for Fremd and collected 13 digs. Claudia Wala (3), Allie Belmonte (2) and Seaver (2) led in blocks.

Barrington (8-10, 2-3) was led on attack by Jessica Horwath (10 kills, 4 digs), Campbell Paris (5 kills) and Noelle Daehler (6 kills, 1 blocks).

Other top performers were Amanda Cleary (1 aces, 4 points, 13 digs), Amelia Sigaev (15 assists, 4 digs), Arianna Armando (10 digs, 6 points) and Felicia Guagliardo (7 points, 6 assists, 10 digs) and Morgan Buckner (2 kills, 1 block).

Rolling Meadows d. Elk Grove: Meadows setter Erin Behls handed out 24 assists, with 13 of them going to Ashlyn Ryan as the visiting Mustangs (6-13, 1-4) earned a 25-13, 25-19 MSL East win.

Bianca Madey added 5 kills for the winners and Nicole Dimova had three.

Sophia Salemi (18 digs) served 5 aces and Patryjca Winnicki added two for Meadows which received 2 blocks from Madey, and one from Colleen Cox.

Hoffman Estates d. Schaumburg: Host Hoffman Estates (5-8, 1-4) picked up its first win in the MSL West with a 21-25, 25-19, 25-22 triumph.

Callie Meese handed out 40 assists as Patricia Wadas (18 kills), Niyah McAllister (15), Nora Rackocki (5) and Josie Roberts (4) were her top attackers.

Ashley Poland (18) and Patricia Wadas (11) led the Hawks in digs. Emma Essex served 3 aces for the winners.

College volleyball

Harper d. Rock Valley: Harper posted a 25-12, 25-16, 25-16 win to raise its record to 5-0 in the N4C.

Hawks libero Jules Carusiello was named NJCAA defensive Player of the Week and is currently third in the nation in digs.

Rugile Jaciunas (10) kills, Rachel Kandefer (7), Amelia Reiter (6) and Kelsey Bauer (5) were top attackers for Harper on Thursday.
