Northfield Township property reassessments in the mail

Northfield Township Assessor Alida E. Nally wants residents to know that the Cook County Assessor released the initial assessments of residential and commercial properties for the township as part of the 2022 triennial reassessment (property taxes payable in 2023). Residents should receive their reassessment notice in the mail.

As part of the services provided by Northfield Township, we can help review your assessment to be sure it is equitable and file an appeal if helpful. The last day to file appeals is Thursday, Nov. 3. Appeals can be filed at cookcountyassessor.com/online-appeals. An appeal is intended to correct the accuracy of your property's assessment. A change in your home's assessment does not lead to the same change in your property taxes.

Properties in Cook County are reassessed once every three years. This means the Cook County Assessor determines a property's fair market/assessed value for taxation purposes. Market prices rose on homes in Northfield Township over the past couple of years, and assessments have followed these increases. For Northfield Township, the total assessed value for all properties went up 34%. If an individual assessment went up less than this, the property could see little change in its property tax bill or even a decline. The full impact of this reassessment on tax bills will be known late next year after all appeals are processed and any eligible exemptions are applied.

Residents can make an in-person or telephone appointment with Northfield Township Assessor staff to review their assessment or contact with questions.
