COVID-19: 123 new cases in Glenview and Northbrook in past week

An additional 123 people tested positive for COVID-19 in the past week in Glenview and Northbrook, but there were no new deaths from it, Cook County public health and medical examiner's offices reported.

There were 67 new cases in Glenview and 56 in Northbrook from Oct. 21 through Tuesday.

In Glenview, 1,219 people have tested positive and 52 people have died since the pandemic began. In Northbrook, 743 have tested positive and 43 have died.

In the previous week, Oct. 14-20, Glenview cases increased by 94 and Northbrook cases increased by 52, and each town had one death.

As of Tuesday, suburban Cook County had 81,791 cases and 2,387 deaths, according to the state. In Chicago there were 97,041 cases and 3,052 fatalities.

Suburban Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will counties had reported 168,659 COVID-19 cases in the suburbs as of Tuesday. That's 44% of the state's total, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.

There have been 4,404 deaths in the suburbs, representing 46% of all COVID-19 deaths in Illinois

On Friday, Chicago will join six other regions of the state where restrictions have been tightened as COVID-19 cases have risen sharply. Suburban Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kankakee and Will counties already face the same restrictions, with indoor dining and bar service banned, public gatherings limited to 25 or fewer people or 25% of a building's capacity, reduced operating hours and other restrictions, Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced.
