Dining out: Shake Shack opens in Vernon Hills, Seasons 52 taps summer flavors

Shake it off

Shake Shack, known for its ShackBurgers, chicken sandwiches, griddled flat-top dogs and more, is opening its newest location at 11 a.m. Friday, June 21, in Vernon Hills. The first 100 patrons in line Friday will receive Shake Shack swag. This location will feature local brews from Half Acre Beer Company and Revolution Brewing. Plus, patrons will find unique frozen custard concretes such as A Sprinkle in Time (vanilla custard, lemon curd, marshmallow, shortbread cookie and rainbow sprinkles), S'More (chocolate custard, marshmallow sauce, graham crackers and Mast Brothers dark chocolate chunks) and Pie Oh My (vanilla custard and pieces of Four & Twenty Blackbirds seasonal pie). Five percent of sales from the Pie Oh My concrete will be donated to the Northern Illinois Food Bank.

Rosé refresh

What do you get when you combine summer flavors with refreshing cocktails? Seasons 52's new Rosé All Day, All Summer menu. Launched this week, diners will find seasonal dishes such as roasted corn, aged cheddar and spiced bacon flatbread; spiced bacon and burrata panzanella salad; summer corn soup; pot-roasted basil-ricotta chicken; bistro steak; and blueberry cheesecake mini indulgence. For those seeking a summer sipper, Seasons 52's Advanced Sommelier has curated a rosé menu featuring selections such as Jansz Brut Rosé (sparkling wine from Tasmania, Australia); Vanderpump Dry Rosé (a classic Provence rosé); Rosé Lemonade (Ketel One Botanical Grapefruit and Rose Vodka combined with Royal Post Rosé and lemon); and Rosé Sangria (Royal Post Rosé, honey lavender, white cranberry and lemon). Or, if you prefer other summer fruits, the restaurant also offers the new Peach Riesling Mule (Prüm Riesling, Ketel One Botanical Peach and Orange Blossom Vodka, ginger beer and lime) and the Cocojito (RumHaven Coconut Water Rum, lime and mint).

With warmer weather comes barbecue, and this year B. GOOD has partnered with Stubb's BBQ to come up with three new menu offerings that are now available. The BBQ Chicken Bowl features black bean corn salsa, cheddar, spicy slaw, romaine, super grains, scallions and Stubb's BBQ Sauce while the BBQ Bacon Burger comes topped with cheddar, caramelized onions and Stubb's BBQ sauce. Cool off with the new strawberry basil chill, a frozen beverage blended with strawberries, basil and ice. And, on July 24, a new side of mac and cheese featuring cheddar, mozzarella and Romano will join the menu.
