Marklund board chair Frank Murnane Jr. steps down

At the June 23 Marklund board of directors meeting, Frank Murnane Jr. stepped down from serving as board chair, a role he has held since July of 2019.

“We are profoundly grateful for the inspiring leadership of Frank Murnane Jr. over the past three years that has made a significant impact on those we currently serve and expanded opportunities for those we will serve in the future,” said Gil Fonger, Marklund president and CEO. “He has led the board with passion, courage and determination during one of the most trying times in Marklund's 67-year history.”

During his tenure as chair, Murnane approved the addition of eight new board members, and led the board in creating the 2030 strategic plan and approving three capital projects (maintenance/locker room expansion in Geneva, and construction of the Nathan Education Center in Elgin).

He participated in the groundbreaking and subsequent grand opening of the Foglia Education Center at Marklund Day School-Geneva, as well as the groundbreaking of the Nathan Education Center in Elgin.

Just prior to becoming chair, he led the successful effort to raise more than $7 million in a capital campaign for the Foglia Education Center. He and his family also volunteer at the annual Gift Opening, and attend Marklund's various fundraising events.

Murnane joined the volunteer board of directors in 2016 and will remain a member of the board.

A resident of Wheaton, Frank is Chairman of Murnane Packaging Corp. North Aurora resident Mike Herlihy, owner of Olsson Roofing, Aurora, succeeds Murnane as the board chair.

The Marklund Board of Directors is made up of a group of volunteers from the suburbs and Chicago area who are committed to advancing the mission and vision of Marklund.

Having diverse backgrounds, the board members bring to the table experience from various business sectors, service organizations and personal connections to the developmental disabilities arena.
