Wheaton Public Library to host annual Gingerbread House Contest

Wheaton Public Library will host a Gingerbread House Contest from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17 in the library's Arts & Culture Center.

No registration is required to enter the contest, but participants must drop off their gingerbread house between 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the day of the event.

The public is invited to vote for their favorite house in three age groups (youth, teen, and adult).

Voting will run from 1 to 3 p.m. and winners will be announced at 3 p.m. after votes are tallied. A prize will be awarded to the winner of each category.

During the voting period, the public is welcome to stay to watch a showing of the classic 2003 movie "Elf," take a photo in front of the gingerbread themed backdrop, and decorate their own paper gingerbread cookie.

The gingerbread fun doesn't stop there. During the week leading up to the contest, the library will host gingerbread themed story times for youth age 5 and under with their caregiver.

These story times will take place Monday, Dec. 12 to Thursday, Dec. 15, at 10 and 11 a.m. No registration required.

Teens also will have the opportunity to participate in a Speed Gingerbread Contest at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16.

Students in sixth to 12th grade will be challenged to build the best gingerbread house out of crackers in the shortest time to win a prize.

Registration is required to attend this event at wheatonlibrary.org/calendar.
