Congregation Kneseth Israel remembers veterans and Kristallnacht

Veterans Day and Kristallnacht, which fall two days apart, are both of great importance to Congregation Kneseth Israel in Elgin. On Friday, Nov. 11, they will hold a very special Sabbath service commemorating Kristallnacht and observing Veterans Day at 7:30 p.m. at the synagogue, 330 Division St.

This spiritual evening will include a presentation, "Serving in the United States Military in Post-World War II Europe." No one, not the top officers or young soldiers, could be prepared for what they saw in the aftermath of the Holocaust. Holocaust survivors were in a state of disbelief as they were liberated. But even in the midst of absolute horror, there are stories of love.

On this special Sabbath, Congregation Kneseth Israel will pay homage to veterans and to both victims and survivors of the Holocaust, as they weave the stories together.

All are welcome. There are no reservations and no fee. For details, call (847) 741-3127.
