I took this picture of a dragonfly at a DuPage Forest Preserve. I like this photo because I was able to capture the detail on it's body and wings and was able to see it's eyes which I find fascinating. It's head and eyes look like a creature from another planet. Nancy Havener of Naperville
I took this photo about a month ago in Yellowstone National Park. My parents and I had just watched Old Faithful, and I looked up at the sky and saw a cloud shaped like a heart. Maggie Koch, of Elgin
I am a retired teacher and for the first time I've really had time to tend my garden. I tried some different kinds of tomatoes this year. The most fun were the ones called " Sweet Peas". They are so tiny they are the size of a green pea. You pop one in your mouth and get an amazing burst of flavor. After I picked these tomatoes, I thought they looked like bunches of grapes. So I labeled them "grapes of the Midwest". Janet Johnson of Sugar Grove
Interpreters go about doing tasks such as cooking, as they would have been done in the 19th century, at Old World Wisconsin in early June. This living museum, located in Eagle, allows visitors to see how European immigrants lived in the 19th century in Wisconsin. Nicole Dicop-Hineline of Gurnee
Sunset on Big Saint Germain lake in St. Germain, Wisconsin with Cami, the golden retriever, enjoying the view with me. Rob Swim of Naperville
Late July or early August can be slow for birding, but it's a great time to find young birds leaning how to survive. I spent over an hour watching this young Red tailed hawk practicing his hunting skills at the Morton Arboretum. Here he makes his attack on an utility flag. The flag put up a good fight, but in the end, the hawk prevailed. Bonnie Graham of Lombard
A Korean War-era F-86 Saber rises above the clouds at the EAA AirVenture 2016 in Oshkosh, Wis. on Friday, July 29. Charles Spencer of Mundelein
Two children enjoy a day in downtown Chicago by hanging out on The Ledge at Willis Tower Skydeck on July 29. Judie LaPenta of Schaumburg
While attending Mass in Poland in a small chapel in June I saw these children waiting outside to receive their First Holy Communion. I thought the picture captured boys and girls of this age perfectly. For the most part the girls are sitting very ladylike while the boys are busy whispering and talking to themselves. The girl on the bench with the boys has her head in her hand and I imagine she must be thinking "Why me? Why do I have to sit with the boys?" Tami Bone of Geneva
Marsh vegetation create interesting silhouettes against the colorful sunset in Busse Woods. Deb Marak of Arlington Heights
A butterfly lands on a large orange flower in the butterfly exhibit at Brookfield Zoo on Aug. 8. The exhibit is a wonderful place to see vibrant colors in nature.. Roy Lobenhofer of Mount Prospect
