Man critically injured in Fox River boat crash

A man was critically injured Friday afternoon when his boat crashed into a dock on the Fox River in Trout Valley, officials said.

The man, whose age and name have not yet been released, was unconscious when he was pulled out of the water by an off-duty Mount Prospect firefighter/paramedic who lives nearby, according to a news release from the Cary Fire Protection District.

The firefighter and another bystander performed CPR on the victim until crews from Cary and the Fox River Grove Fire Department arrived about 3 p.m. The man was then taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, where he remains in critical condition, the release said.

Cary firefighters launched a search for other victims, however, authorities said witnesses only saw on person on the boat before it crashed.

The crash is being investigated by the McHenry County sheriff's office.
