Trinity International University Music Events April 10 and 12

The Trinity International University Department of Music presents two special and diverse music events on Friday evening, April 10, and Sunday afternoon, April 12.

The Trinity Community Philharmonic Orchestra will perform on Friday evening, April 10, at 7:30 pm. The 70-member orchestra includes Trinity students and local musicians, including music educators from throughout the metropolitan community.

Robert Nordling will guest conduct the orchestra. He serves as principal conductor of the Baroque on Beaver Island music festival and is active as a guest conductor around the world. Featured selections for the concert include Bruckner's "Overture in G Minor," Corigliano's "Voyage for String Orchestra," Gabrieli's "Canzon a 12," and Haydn's "Symphony 104 - London."

On Sunday afternoon, April 12, Trinity faculty member Norm Ruiz and alumnus Jeffrey Warren will present a guitar recital at 3:00 pm. They will perform a variety of solo and duo guitar works, including several from their CD together, "Duos Dialogues."

Ruiz, a master teacher and virtuoso of the classical guitar, has performed in the Chicago area for more than 30 years, soloing with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, on WFMT and NPR radio, and with the Chicago Classical Guitar Society.

Warren, winner of the Society of American Musicians guitar competition, gives concerts throughout the Midwest and internationally. He has been teaching and performing classical and jazz guitar for over 20 years.

Warren and Ruiz have played together as Duos Dialogues for more than a decade, giving concerts around the world. Each brings a unique quality to their playing, bringing surprising and delightful insight into the music they perform.

Both concerts will be held in the A. T. Olson Chapel on the Deerfield campus at 2065 Half Day Road. Tickets for each event are $8 for general admission, $5 for students and seniors, and may be purchased at the door or by calling 847-712-6754.
