Principal for a day

Last year, in the heat of the National Hockey League playoffs, Gilberts Elementary fifth-grader Vincenzo Pellegrino and I made a bet during his lunch hour. Being from Detroit, I took the Red Wings to win the Stanley Cup, and Vincenzo took the Blackhawks. The bet was detention or principal for a day. Unfortunately for me, the Blackhawks won and Vincenzo has a good memory. I cleared it with his teacher and his parents, so on Friday, Oct. 4, he served as principal for the day. His duties included: greeting students with me in the morning, doing the announcements, visiting classrooms, monitoring lunch/recess, doing his paperwork, a special lunch, giving his class a treat, and so on. He did an awesome job.
