Meadows rolls to Fremd tourney win
Rolling Meadows improved its record to 26-6 with a 5-0 run to the championship in the boys volleyball tournament hosted by Fremd on Saturday.
The Mustangs topped Elk Grove 10-25, 27-25, 15-13 in the championship matchup. They also defeated West Aurora and York in three sets, and South Elgin and Fremd in two.
In the title match, after having lost the first set, Rolling Meadows trailed Elk Grove 19-11 in the second. After taking a timeout, the Mustangs regrouped to win the last two sets by 2 points each time.
Rolling Meadows rested seniors Kevin Murphy and Tom Srnak in advance of Wednesday’s 7 p.m. Mid-Suburban League championship game against Palatine.
Elk Grove’s only tournament loss came against Meadows; the Grens finished second at 4-1.
Jake Braceros (40 kills) and Jake Gatziolis (28) led the attack for Elk Grove (19-15), Ray Kraus had 82 assists and Karl Freidenfelds was 36-for-39 serving with 13 aces.
