March 1 to April 7: FUSEDChicago Exhibit at CLC

FUSEDChicago: A Group Encaustic Exhibition by 14 Chicago-area artists will open at the Robert T. Wright Community Gallery of Art at the College of Lake County on March 1 and run through April 7.

The artists featured in the exhibit are Dan Addington, Alicia Forestall-Boehm, Shelley Gilchrist, Nikkole Huss, Katsy Johnson, Catherine Keebler, Elyse Martin, Jane Michalski, Sarah E. Rehmer, Paul Rinaldi, Emily Rutledge, Michele Thrane, Kathleen Waterloo and Donna Zarbin-Byrne. The works explore new methods and images employing encaustic, the ancient painting medium that combines hot wax and colored pigments applied to a surface.

The exhibit will kick off with a reception from 7-9 p.m. on March 1 in the gallery, located on CLC's Grayslake campus, 19351 W. Washington St. The opening night reception, which is free and open to the public, will include refreshments and live music by harpist Daphne Freund.

Also opening March 1 in the Artcetera Gallery (adjacent to the Wright Gallery) is a national invitational ceramics exhibit called OutPOUR, featuring the pouring vessels of 45 artists. That exhibit continues through April 17 and is curated by Ben Bates, CLC ceramics instructor.

Patrons should enter through the C Wing and proceed toward the Library/Learning Resource Center. Regular hours for the exhibit are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday; and 1-5 p.m. Sunday. During CLC's spring break, March 25-31, the gallery is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is closed the weekend of March 30-31.

The Robert T. Wright Community Gallery of Art on the Grayslake campus is a project of the College of Lake County Foundation and is located at 19351 W. Washington St. Established by the CLC Foundation in 1981, the gallery is committed to displaying the works of Illinois artists and increasing the visibility of nationally known artists in Lake County.
