Bartlett trustee running for U-46 school board

Bartlett village Trustee Frank Napolitano will not seek re-election to the village board next year but instead run for a position on the Elgin Area School District U-46 board.

“I believe the village board has several good candidates for 2013, and I believe the administration has done a good job over the past four years, and will continue to do so,” Napolitano said in a statement.

Napolitano, who has served four years on the village board, said that before running for his current position he considered seeking a seat on the school board or the Bartlett Park District board.

He believes the school board needs a conservative voice, and someone who will question the actions and recommendations of the school administration.

“Before spending your tax dollars on purchases, I asked tough questions to make sure it was the best use of your tax dollars,” his statement reads.

Napolitano said when attending school board meetings he saw “measures passed, several purchases authorized, and contracts approved” without any debate or discussion by the seven members.

“Someone needs to ask some basic questions to make sure items being purchased, agreements being made, contracts entered into and policies being set are done so with your best interests in mind,” he said.

Three seats on the U-46 board are up for election this spring, including those of board President Donna Smith and members Joyce Fountain and Dale Spencer.
