Endorsement: Bush over Neal in 31st Senate District
Voters in the 31st Illinois Senate District have a choice between two competent candidates, Democrat Melinda Bush of Grayslake and Republican Joe Neal of Wadsworth. We endorse Bush for her reputation as a hardworking Lake County Board member who pushed for new ethics rules. Bush favors allowing Illinois’ temporary income tax increase to expire in January 2015; cutting wages, benefits and pensions for elected officials and ending pension double-dipping; and examining each state program before setting future funding levels. On public pensions, Bush opposes cuts for those already retired but would look at capping cost of living increases and raising employee contributions for others. As a former Grayslake trustee, Bush’s knowledge of central Lake County would benefit her and constituents in the 31st District, which stretches from Winthrop Harbor to Antioch and south to Wauconda, Grayslake and Gurnee.
