Library offers Rewards Cards

The Huntley Area Public Library, 11000 Ruth Road in Huntley, has introduced a new Rewards Card to help its patrons save money during the recession. The card entitles its holder to one reward each month until August 2009. Rewards include $2 off the price of a book and a free stuffed animal. Library district residents who apply for a new library card by March 31 will receive a Rewards Card. Cards will not be available for current cardholders. Call (847) 669-5386.

Centegra hosts heart lecture

The Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center in Huntley is hosting a lecture on the symptoms, treatment and prevention of hypertension, or high blood pressure from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, at Algonquin and Haligus roads. Register by calling (877) 236-8347.

Jacobs to compete for grant

The teen driver safety program at Jacobs High School has been named one of the top 10 programs nationwide among Project Ignition grant recipients. Project Ignition is a program sponsored by State Farm Insurance that awards grants to high schools for driver education initiatives. The Project Ignition team at Jacobs received $2,000 through the program last year to create its "In the Blink of an Eye, Think Before You Drive" program. The team at Jacobs will now get to compete for a $10,000 grant.
