Rolling Meadows third at own tourney
Mustang Stampede: Freshman Josie Suchecki (7-9) threw a 6-hitter for Rolling Meadows (11-14) in a 5-2 win over Lane Tech in the third-place game of the eight-team tourney.
The Mustangs were led on offense by Tierney Larson (1-for-1, 2 RBI), Lauren Slusarczyk (2-for-2) and Suchecki, who had a hit and an RBI.
Hoffman Estates 1, Hersey 0 (11): Hoffman Estates (10-14, 5-7) won its fourth straight when senior Kaitlyn Kliver hit a hard grounder to third base with the bases loaded that enabled Alex Wulbecker to score from third in the bottom of the 11th inning in Mid-Suburban crossover action.
Hawks senior ace Kaitlin Walsh (7-9) threw the first 9 innings, striking out 12, while sophomore Emily Janes (2-5) went the final 2 and picked up the win.
Sophomore catcher Kelsey Pellus also singled in the 11th for Hoffman and Walsh drew a walk.
Kari Tunney went 2-for-4 for Hersey (5-16, 4-8).
Fremd 2, Bartlett 0: Fremd improved to 21-2 as senior Casey Latal (7-0) threw 5 innings for the win. She struck out three and gave up 2 hits.
Junior Lena Brottman (14-2) did not allow a hit in the final two innings.
Junior Jenny Schneider belted a solo homer in the first inning and Latal belted an RBI double in the second.
Schaumburg splits: The Saxons dropped the opener 1-0 loss in a terrific pitcher's duel between Schaumburg senior ace Missy Anderson (11-6), who recorded 8 strikeouts, and Downers Grove South's Brooke Denny (4 strikeouts).
Schaumburg's only hit was a two-out single in the top of the seventh by Sarah McGinn.
Schaumburg (14-9) won 8-5 in Game 2 as junior catcher Ally Poehlmann was 4-for-4 with a home run and double.
Other top hitters for the Saxons were Alexis Carravetta (3-for-3), McGinn (3-for-3) and Jessica Cook (2-for-4).
Sophomore Jessica Cook (2-2) earned the win, pitching the first 4 innings. Alyssa Lancaster went the final 3 in her varsity debut. She struck out the first batter she faced in the fifth.
St Viator 7, Providence 3: Julie Sweeney (3 strikeouts) earned the win for the Lions (9-15), who were led on offense by Abby Dickey (3 hits, double,2 RBI), Sweeney (2 hits, double, 3 RBI) and Ronnie Mack (3 hits).
Maine West splits: Maine West defeated host Geneva 2-1 and then lost 3-1 in the second game of a nonconference doubleheader.
Freshman Alyssa Bojarski (3-3) won the opener and Kaleigh McGing had a double.
Emily Ott doubled for the Warriors (15-11) in Game 2.
