Waubonsie Valley High garage damaged by fire

A large garage on the campus of Waubonsie Valley High School was severely damaged by fire Saturday night, but it did not seem to affect the homecoming festivities, according to an account from the Aurora Fire Department.

Damage to the building and its contents of yard and field maintenance equipment is estimated at $500,000, said John Lehman, deputy chief of the department. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but foul play is not suspected.

The 30-by-50-foot concrete block garage is north of the main building, said Lehman.

About 20 firefighters arrived at 8:28 p.m. and were on the scene on Ogden Avenue (U.S. Route 34) west of Eola Road for about 90 minutes, he said.
