Assistance available for gas bills

Funding may be available for Fox Valley residents who need help paying their heating bills. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program is accepting applications for those who have not yet applied for benefits since September 2008. This program applies to homes heated with natural gas, electricity or fuel that's delivered. Eligibility is based on the household's combined income. For a household of one, the gross income for the last 30 days must be less than $1,300; for two people, less than $1,750; for three, less than $2,200; for four, less than $2,650 and for five, less than $3,100. Wanted: kid book donations

The PTO at Westfield Community School in Algonquin is asking for donations of gently used and new books for Community Unit District 300 classrooms that need them. Books can be dropped off during school hours through Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009 in bins located in the school's main office. Books should be appropriate for students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
