District 158 to draft law:
Officials in Huntley Unit District 158 are hoping legislation will fix a $1.4 million annual loss in state aid. School board Vice President Tony Quagliano plans to draft a bill that would fix the issue, which stems from an error in the Kane County Clerk's office and has cost the district an estimated $4 million to date. But Quagliano has no allusions it will get passed. Previous efforts to persuade the General Assembly and the Illinois State Board of Education to rectify the issue have been unsuccessful.
Sheriff suing Crystal Lake over intersection:
McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren is taking the city of Crystal Lake to court, asking a judge to settle a long-running dispute over who patrols the intersection outside Prairie Ridge High School. The suit, filed in McHenry County Circuit Court, seeks a final order declaring whether Nygren's department or Crystal Lake police have jurisdiction over the intersection of Dvorak and Walkup roads, on the city's north side. The sheriff currently patrols the intersection, but claims Crystal Lake should takeover since the city annexed the surrounding land. The case is first scheduled to appear in court May 18 before Judge Maureen McIntyre.
