Filing begins this week to get on the April 7 ballot for local offices. Monday, Jan. 26, is the last day to file. In Huntley, Mayor Chuck Sass is up for election, as are trustees Pam Fender, Paul Mercer and John Piwko. You can pick up petitions in the village clerk's office at village hall, 10987 Main St. Petitions must be filed between 8 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20 and 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26 at village hall. Auditor praises District 300
Virchow Krause & Co., Community Unit District 300's auditor, reviewed the annual financial report and was impressed by what she saw. Krause commended the district on its growing fund balances and said there were no significant errors on the previous year's financial statements. While she recommended the district implement tighter internal controls to comply with two-year-old auditing standards, she said the steps could be taken gradually.
Chili Cook-Offs for charity
The Association for Individual Development is having three Chili Cook-offs: at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24 at Mott's Lounge in Burlington; at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25 at Mary's Corner Tap in South Elgin; and at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25 at the Maple Park Pub in Maple Park. The winners from each of these contests will face off during AID's 10th annual telethon Feb. 28 and have the chance to win a $500 cash prize. Preregistration is required.
