Addison Trail bounces back
This was how to take the edge off a tough conference loss.
In the opening game of the eighth annual Glenbard West Holiday Classic on Saturday, Addison Trail defeated Northside Prep 57-14.
The Blazers forced Northside into 34 turnovers and 4-of-32 shooting. Eleven players scored for Addison Trail (4-5), headed by Tyler Ramir with 9 points, Alex Dimaris with 8 and Peter Spear and Tyler Horvath each with 6.
It was much better than experiencing Hinsdale South's decisive 25-0 run on Friday.
"I think we bounced back good today," said guard Costa Diamond, one of Addison Trail's good-hands people, like teammates Spears and Chris Benjamin, who flummoxed the 0-10 Mustangs with full- and half-court pressure.
"We came out strong," Diamond said. "It kind of died out in the second quarter, our energy, then we got it back going in the second half."
Leading 15-3 after the first quarter, Addison Trail was up 22-9 at halftime and rolled further by causing 21 second-half turnovers. To its credit, Northside coach Dave Genis' sophomore- and junior-based squad never hung its head.
Addison Trail coach Brendan Lyons said: "One of our goals defensively was to kind of dictate the tempo of the game. We'd seen them in film and in person, and we thought we could really make our defense spur our offense a little bit."
