Algonquin preschool hosts open house
Light of Christ Preschool, 100 Hanson Road in Algonquin, will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18. Book sale continues today at Oak Crest
Oak Crest Residence and Atrium Apartments invites the community to attend its monthly book sale, which continues from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14 in the Atrium, 204 S. State St., Elgin. The sale consists of a large selection of gently used books (over 1,000 titles), VHS movies and CDs. Hardbacks are $1, paperbacks are 50 cents. A beautifully furnished doll house, which was handcrafted by the members of Oak Crest, will be raffled off beginning this month. Refreshments will be served. Recycle your tree on Thursday in Cary
During January, Groot Recycling and Waste Services, the refuse hauler for the village of Cary, will collect Christmas trees at no additional charge to Cary residents. The trees will be collected on Thursdays, Jan. 8-29. Residents who choose to take advantage of this free service are asked to make sure the Christmas trees are placed on the curb before 6:30 a.m. on the designated day. The Christmas trees will be chipped by Groot and recycled for further use. Trees must be free of tinsel, garland, ornaments, lights and other decorations. Learn about ECC's plans for the future
The Carpentersville-Dundee Area League of Women Voters invites you to attend a presentation by Elgin Community College regarding their 60-year planning program. Hear about ECC's plans for the future at the meeting at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15 at the Sleepy Hollow Village Hall, 1 Thorobred Lane. In the first week in March, the league will hold candidates' forums for those seeking elected positions on the boards of the villages of East and West Dundee, Sleepy Hollow, Gilberts and Carpentersville, school districts 300 and 509, Dundee Township Public Library and Dundee Township Park District. Dundee Lions host annual tournament
The Dundee Lions have sponsored the District 300 Middle School Basketball Tournament for Boys since 1959. On Saturday, Jan. 24, they will have a lunch and rewards presentation for this year's winning teams and all-star players. They are looking for men who have played in these tournaments in the past, and they hope that they would attend to help with this 50th anniversary. Get orders in for Super Bowl hoagies
The Chancel Choir of First Congregational Church of Dundee is offering Super Bowl Sunday hoagie sandwiches for sale as a fundraiser. The cost of each hoagie is $6.
Sandwiches made following the Dundee Scots "secret" recipe will be available for pickup on Saturday, Jan. 31 after 10:30 a.m. Order deadline is Sunday, Jan. 25.
