School board
• On Monday, the U-46 Board of Education meets at 7 p.m. in Room 140 at the Educational Services Center located at 355 E. Chicago St. in Elgin. The public is welcome to attend and provide citizen comments to the school board at the open meetings. Ellis
• On Thursday, the Ellis Middle School will present a band concert at 7 p.m. in the auditorium, 225 S. Liberty St., Elgin. It had previously been scheduled for Dec. 16. Tickets are $6 per family; $2 per adult and $1 per student.
Garfield Elementary
• On Thursday, a health clinic sponsored by U-46 and the Greater Elgin Family Care Center will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. for children birth to 18 years old. Garfield Elementary School is at 420 May St. in Elgin. Call for appointments at (847) 608-1344.
Hawk Hollow
• On Friday, Hawk Hollow Elementary School in Bartlett will participate in Candy Bar Bingo.
Highland
• On Wednesday, a health clinic sponsored by U-46 and the Greater Elgin Family Care Center will be held from 3-6 p.m. for children birth to 18 years old. Highland Elementary School is at 190 N. Melrose Ave. in Elgin. Call for appointments at (847) 608-1344.
Lincoln
• On Thursday, "Boys Night Out" will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Lincoln Elementary School gym and commons, 1650 Maureen Drive in Hoffman Estates. There will be basketball shootouts, relay races and other games for all male students and their fathers, uncles, etc. Pizza will be available for $2 a slice and drinks for $1.
Prairieview
• On Wednesday, the sixth-graders at Prairieview Elementary School are going to Camp Timber-lee in Troy, Wis. for three days. This is an annual event that is attended by the principal, sixth-grade teachers and other staff and parent volunteers. This is an outdoor education camp where students will learn different crafts, in addition to outdoor activities.
In other news
• South Elgin High School U.S. History students participated in a writing project for Veterans Day. The students wrote letters to neighboring veterans and received many thank yous from the families who the students had written to. Art Richoz is donating a book about the war he served in from her husband's library. He is mentioned in the book. One thank you states, "To the history class of South Elgin High School, I would like to thank everyone of you for the touching letters. If I received the congressional medal of honor I couldn't have been prouder. It's nice to know we haven't been forgotten. Stay in school and continue to be proud Americans. You made me feel like a hero!"
