Bicycle club donates funds to buy place to sit down
The McHenry County Bicycle Club presented a check for $2,800 to McHenry County Conservation District board of trustees at last week's board meeting.
Anne Lunk, president of the McHenry Bicycle Club, and member Sam Wexler presented the check to Kim Hankins MCCD board president for the purchase and installation of two benches at Glacial Park Conservation Area.
The club uses Glacial Park's Keystone Road Landing and Hart Road parking area as a starting spot for its weekly rides during the summer. With the advent of colder weather, the group also makes use of the 5 miles of trails at Glacial Park, as well as the district's 26-mile Prairie Trail and 7-mile Hebron trail, for hiking, snow shoeing and cross-country skiing in an attempt to stay fit during the off-season.
MCBC was established in 1980 and has grown to roughly 150 members. The club hosts a year-round schedule of bicycling, recreational and social events for beginning riders, experienced touring riders and competitive racers.
MCBC is affiliated with The League of American Bicyclists, Chicago Bicycle Federation, Rails to Trails Conservancy, League of Illinois Bicyclists and Illinois Trails Conservancy.
