Founders Day Brunch:

At 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, Elgin Community College will hold a 60th Anniversary Founders Day Brunch on its main campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. The meal begins with a champagne reception and includes live entertainment, an awards ceremony and prizes. Funds raised support student financial aid and instructional programs. Chili Cook-Off for Charity!

The Association for Individual Development is having a Chili Cook-off at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 24 at Mott's Lounge in Burlington, at 1 p.m. Jan. 25 at Mary's Corner Tap in South Elgin and at 1 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Maple Park Pub in Maple Park. The top three winners from each of these contests will face off during AID's 10th annual telethon on Feb. 28 and have the chance to win a $500 cash first prize. Preregistration is required.

The Dundee Township Public Library will hold a college financial aid workshop from 2 p.m. today explaining the intricacies of the system and offering resources for future as well as current college students. The financial aid system includes scholarships, grants, student loans, and tax-saving opportunities and is designed to help relieve the expensive burden of college for all parents, not just low or moderate income families. Certified College Planning Specialist Joe Orsolini will present "Don't Pay the College Sticker Price!" at the West Dundee Public Safety Center II, 100 Carrington Ave., at Route 72 and Sleepy Hollow Road.
