Addison Trail can't keep up with Hinsdale S.
Addison Trail entered Wednesday's girls gymnastics match against Hinsdale South without two of their varsity members.
The Blazers performed well in Darien with the gymnasts they had but ultimately fell 134.85-116.50.
Despite scoring a 30.50 in the vault, Addison Trail coach Mike Galfi felt it was his team's worst event.
"Vault was kind of a little shaky today. We weren't hitting the positions that we typically do," Galfi said. "The things that we've been working on in practice, we didn't put two and two together. That was pretty much our low of the night."
The Blazers lost their most ground in the beam competition, finishing 5.8 points behind Hinsdale South.
Addison Trail's Alyssa Grzegorzefski made the Blazers' lone all-around honor, finishing the vault, bars, beam and floor with an average score of 34.45. Her 8.80 on the vault tied for the night's highest single mark, as she consistently gave her short-handed team a boost.
"Alyssa Grzegorzefski was probably one of our main contenders today," Galfi said. "I have two girls that are hurt right now, and our depth is pretty much nothing, so when we get two girls hurt, it really affects our score. The girls who were JV stepped up and did a pretty good job today for us."
Hinsdale South sophomore Paulina Rante led the Hornets with a 34.20, earning an 8.70 in both the bars and floor competitions.
Hinsdale South set a season-high mark on the bars, combining for a 33.30 as sophomore Alyssa Fatigati added a new pirouette to her routine.
The Hornets posted a match-high 34.45 on the beam, which Hinsdale South coach Marnie Miran credits to her team's intelligence and poise.
"On beam we counted only one fall, which is great," Miran said. "I'm proud of my girls because they're really smart up there. If they miss a trick, they know how to go back and add in the requirements they need."
With the postseason beginning shortly after the turn of the calendar, Miran feels her team is reaching its potential at exactly the right time.
"They did a great job. We got our second-highest team score of the season, which is awesome," Miran said. "They just keep progressing along, so they'll peak right at the right time. I'm excited to see how they get in the regional and sectional tournaments."
