That's eight for Carpentersville trustee
Add another name to the village trustee ballot in Carpentersville. Debra Lowen, wife of former police chief Robert Lowen, will join seven other candidates in the race for one of the three trustee posts available on the board. Incumbents Kay Teeter and Linda Ramirez-Sliwinski face challenges from Lowen, as well as Kenneth Andresen, Kent Baldwin, Joseph Haimann, Bradford McFeggan and Patricia Schultz. Trustee Ed Ritter is vying for the village president position against incumbent Bill Sarto and local businessowner Jim Krenz. The April election will be Lowen's first run at an elected position.
Image deadline extended
Elgin leaders have extended the deadline for nominations for its annual Image Awards to 5 p.m. Friday in order to get a better cross section of nominees and in part because of a glitch with the city's Web site, cityofelgin.org. The March 12 event at the Centre recognizes individuals, businesses or organizations that have had a positive impact on Elgin. There are several categories for the awards: Individual/Professional, Individual/Volunteer, Projects (such as special events, fundraising projects and neighborhood improvements), and Organizations or Businesses. If you need a printed application form or have questions, call public information officer Sue Olafson at (847) 931-5601.
Dundee Township GOP forum
Republican candidates for offices in Dundee Township who are vying for their party's nomination in the February 24 primary election will hold a candidate's forum from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 31, at the Dundee Township Library, 555 Barrington Ave., East Dundee. Since there are no contested races in the Democratic party, the forum will be a Republican primary forum only. There are three candidates for Dundee Township supervisor - incumbent Sue Harney, Don Rage and Pamela L. Griffin; one candidate for road commissioner - incumbent Larry Braasch; six candidates for township board - incumbents Chuck Behm, David Edwards and Ken Schaffer plus Paul Lanspa, Margaret O. Scarpelli and JoAnn Fritz. There will be two new faces vying for the position of township assessor as longtime Assessor Dan McMahon has chosen not to run again. They are Lee Barrett and Michael Bielak. All have been invited to speak and fill out their qualifications for a voter's guide that will be available at the Saturday forum.
