Something a little different for Naperville C.

This was the kind of change Naperville Central was looking for.

Just looking to get a victory any way they could, the Redhawks dispatched Glenbard North with a 61-36 DuPage Valley Conference win Thursday night in Naperville.

"We were kind of at the point where we don't care. We've just got to get a win," Redhawks coach Andy Nussbaum said. "Other than getting hammered last Saturday (by league-leader Wheaton North), our other eight losses are by a total of 28 points. Yesterday in practice I made them shoot at different baskets with different people. Today we went somewhere different for halftime. Whatever it takes to shake whatever spell we're under."

The Redhawks (9-9, 4-2) shook it hard, outscoring Glenbard North 22-10 in the first quarter.

"We just struggled," Panthers coach John Chamberlain said. "It seemed like every time we broke down defensively, they'd find the open player and knock it down."

The Panthers (6-12, 3-3) stayed within sight through the second quarter, but their offense went missing in the third as the Redhawks pulled away.

"I was pleased," Nussbaum said. "For the first time in a long time I felt like we played as a team."

The Panthers' loss overshadowed a big night by senior Monica Noti, who canned five 3-pointers and finished with 17 points.

"She's been playing well," Chamberlain said. "... She went through a little slump, but she's shooting real well, and boy, without her where would we have been?"

The Panthers would have been in even bigger trouble, because they only got 3 field goals from the rest of the roster.

"We made a change defensively and she still did a pretty nice job," Nussbaum said about Noti. "She had a good night. She did a nice job, but otherwise I thought defensively we did a pretty nice job. It's something we've got to get better at."

The Redhawks' zone caused Glenbard North problems all night, forcing 21 turnovers.

"It just didn't seem like we'd get a clean pass around the perimeter at all," Chamberlain said. "We just got in such a big hole. We've done that a few times this year where we're not prepared to come out and get stops."
