Mt. Prospect dentist charged with child porn
Federal agents Friday arrested a 49-year-old Mt. Prospect dentist charged with child pornography.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested John Mantanes at 8 a.m. Friday at his Park Ridge home after a search of his home computer found at least 1,000 images and videos of children in various sexual situations, authorities said.
According to the complaint, some of the images had been downloaded to Mantanes' personal desktop computer as recently as Dec. 19.
During his interview with police, the complaint alleges, Mantanes signed copies of several of the images, acknowledging he downloaded them.
Upon his arrest Mantanes appeared in U.S. District Court, where he was ordered to remain in custody pending detention and preliminary hearings scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21.
Upon a conviction, receiving child pornography carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison and a maximum of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
